Rankings in Database

I've got a lot to learn before I can really get into this game. It's great!!
Question:
Will the rankings in the database change based on my tournament results,
or will the same guys hold their ranking until I load another database
that you will assign changes?

Rankings in the database are independent with what happens in game. Once you create a save file of your game, it duplicates the database as it was when you started, and from then they live their own life in the context of that game file.
