Court Dimensions

Curious, why did you choose to make the court shorter than it is in real life?

Cheers - Jay

Well for example here is a FAT court image: Image

and here is plans/measurements for a real court: Image

A lot more length there .

I thought it was due to issues with the ball physics and/or camera in FAT

I thought so. Believe me, you would be able to tell if the court was square-shaped in the game as it is in the texture file (actually, in some cinematics, you can clearly tell it's not). Fortunately, in 3D rendering, textures are not bound to be mapped on polygons that have the same ratio. In other words, the dimensions of the court in the game really depend on the dimensions of the quad it's mapped upon, as well as the texture's. And those are exactly set so that in the end, the lines match the official ones.
For those reasons, you could point out that the horizontal court lines aren't physically of the exact same width as the vertical court lines. But it isn't a problem as what only matters is the outer bounds of the lines (for instance, baselines in Melbourne are twice the size of other lines, in order to be seen better on TV).

So what you're saying is if the camera in FAT was positioned directly above the court, it would look like the real dimensions of the court? :O

Indeed it would. You can tell in some intro cinematics, particularly on the latest court used for small tournaments.

Hmm you're right. Also noticed a few things.

1. The courts in the images aren't centered accurately, a few pixels off.

2. The baseline should be thicker in some courts.
