Edit a players stats in a career mode save

I would love to manually edit my players stats after career mode games in order to 'improve' over time.
I had a go with a kid in career mode. Then I updated his stats in the editor but my save game for career mode kept the old values unfortunately.
Is there any way to edit a save game?
